The rupee strengthened against the US dollar on the back of Reserve Bank of India's intervention after falling to all-time low of 64.13 early in the trade. The partially convertible rupee was at 63.56, down 43 paise, against its previous close of 63.13 per dollar.
NSE index Nifty fell to its lowest close in almost a year on Tuesday, weighed down by Tata Motors 4.56%, ACC Ltd 4.40%, HCL Tech 3.47%, M&M 2.31%.
Nifty Sensex- The Nifty closed at 5,401.45, down 13.30 points or 0.25 per cent. It touched a high of 5,417.80 and a low of 5,306.35 in trade today.
The 30-share index ended at 18,246.04, down 61.48 points or 0.34 per cent. It recovered over 250 points from day's of 17,970.98. The index touched a high of 18,306.46 in trade today.
News- Shares of Sterlite Industries and Sesa Goa surged higher in a weak trade after their long-awaited merger became effective after all the necessary approvals. The new entity Sesa Sterlite will start trading from 27, August, 2013.
