The benchmark indices extended losses for the fourth consecutive secession, but still ended lower led by losses in Auto and banking stocks. The BSE Sensex ended the day at 31,531.33, down 266.51 points while the Nifty50 index settled at 9,820.25, down 89 points.
Shares of Tata Motors fell over 8 percent to their lowest in over one year after the company's 42 percent rise in June-quarter profit.
BSE Mid-Cap index fell 2.64 percent, whereas Small-Cap index fell 2.9 percent. The fall these indices were higher than the Sensex's fall in percentage terms.
About 2,181 shares declined against 390 shares advanced and112 shares were unchanged. Bharat Forge, BHEL, Bharat Electronics and Manpasand Beverages have declared bonus shares today.
