Closing Bell: Sensex and Nifty end on a flat note

Closing Update- Stock markets ended lower on Thursday in the volatile session due to weakness in index heavyweights like Reliance Industries and ITC. The BSE Sensex closed lower by 27.05 points to 33,573.22, while the NSE Nifty fell 16.75 points to close at 10,423.75. 

Dr Reddy’s Lab, PowerGrid, Aurobindo Pharma, Lupin and Sun Pharma are gainers, among others, whereas ITC, Tech Mahindra, Infratel, SBI, and Hero Motor Corp lost most on NSE. 

Buying was seen in Healthcare, Finance, IT, Consumer Durables, and Reality, while FMCG, Auto, and Metal sectors show weakness on the BSE. 

On NSE, A total of 103 stocks clocked a fresh 52-week high, while 11 stocks touched a new 52-week low.

Indian shares rose today ending at one-month high with Nifty50 scaling 10,006-mark led by gains in banking, capital goods, and auto stocks, while Sensex closed at 31,882 mark, up by 194 points. The Sentiment was also aided by higher Asian markets. Nifty Auto index climbed 0.5 percent led by Maruti Suzuki up over 2 percent after the government said on Saturday, that it would increase taxes for midsized, large, and sports utility vehicles under the recently disclosed nationwide tax. 

Private bank stocks such as Yes Bank, IndusInd Bank and HDFC bank were the major contributors to the gains of Nifty & Sensex. Bank Nifty ended at 24670 levels, up by 1.24 percent. IndusInd Bank was the top gainer in bank Nifty index at Rs 1,790/share, up by 5.55 percent. Bharat Financial Inclusion today informed the stock exchanges that the company has entered into exclusive discussions with IndusInd Bank to explore a merger between the two companies. Shares of Bharat Financial Inclusion has closed at Rs 966.90/share, up by 3.5% and touched its 52-week high of Rs 980.5 /share during the today’s trading session.

Sensex closes up 116 points, Nifty 0.33% higher as realty stocks rise

The BSE Sensex closed 116 points higher on Thursday after the country moved a step closer to implementing a nationwide GST from July. Four bills related to GST, were passed by the lower house of parliament. The new sales tax regime will subsume a slew of central and state levies, transforming a nation of more than 1.2 billion population into a single market. 

Broader market gains were capped due to caution ahead of the expiration of March F&O later in the day. The BSE Sensex gained 116 points at 29,647.42 while the NSE Nifty closed up 29.95 points at 9,173.75. 

About 1731 shares advanced, 987 shares declined, atotal of 229 shares were unchanged on the BSE. 

Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) were the top gainer on Sensex and Nifty. The stock rushed 6% to hit its fresh 52 week’s high of Rs. 339 on the BSE.  Asian shares turned lower today after touching near 2-year highs.
